Duke of Sussex thanks to Marathon runners

THE DUKE OF SUSSEX SENDS #THANKS A BILLION MESSAGE TO VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON RUNNERS

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, today issued a #Thanks a Billion message to the thousands of runners set to take part in the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon as well as to all those who have raised funds for charity during the history of the event.

#Thanks a Billion is the campaign for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon and celebrates the fact that during this year’s race - on Sunday 28 April - the amount of money raised for charity since the first London Marathon in 1981 will break the £1billion mark.

HRH The Duke of Sussex, who is a patron of the London Marathon Charitable Trust, said: “The London Marathon is an extraordinary force for good. It’s the biggest one-day fundraising event on the planet and helps hundreds of charities both at home and abroad, providing vital services to those that need them the most.

“This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon will see the total raised for charity surpass a record-breaking £1billion. For every runner that has contributed to this and for those of you taking part this year, Thanks a Billion.”

Hugh Brasher, Event Director of the Virgin Money London Marathon, said: “Breaking the £1billion mark is a phenomenal achievement and part of what makes the London Marathon unique. No other mass participation event comes anywhere near this kind of fundraising. We would like to thank every runner, supporter, donator, charity, volunteer, sponsor, spectator, staff member and everyone else who has contributed to this wonderful total.”
