Two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz opens the night session on Rod Laver Arena against Miomir Kecmanovic. Despite deep runs at the other 3 Grand Slams, this is Alcaraz’s first appearance in the round of 16 at the Australian Open, as he looks to complete the set of Grand Slam quarterfinals. Meanwhile Kecmanovic has been this far before in Melbourne, as this year he matches his best Australian Open result of reaching the round of 16 in 2022. The two men have met once before, also on a hard court, in the quarterfinals of the Miami- 1000 final back in 2022, where the pair produced an exceptional display in what was a stellar run to a first

Masters-1000 title from an 18-year-old Alcaraz.

Other Top 10 stars Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz will both be looking to end unexpected runs for two men in world No. 69 Nuno Borges and wild card world No. 122 Arthur Cazaux. Also on RLA, Medvedev takes on Borges, who before this year’s Australian Open had never won back-to-back matches at a Tour-level event outside of Davis Cup, but now finds himself having won three Grand Slam matches in a row and taking out two seeds, defeating No. 23 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and inflicting the first defeat of 2024 on No. 13 seed Grigor Dimitrov. On John Cain Arena, Hurkacz takes on Frenchman Cazaux, who is bidding to be the first wild card to reach the quarterfinals here for more than 40 years, since Tomas Smid in 1983.
