Beijing 2022: Day 10 Evening
Men's curling
Comments from Team GB's men's curlers as Bruce Mouat, Hammy McMillan Jr, Bobby Lammie and Grant Hardie beat Switzerland 6-5 to record their fourth straight win, and their fifth out of six games in the round robin stage.
Team Mouat are second in the standings, with the top four progressing, and are back in action tomorrow in a top-of-the-table clash against Sweden where a win will all but secure their place in the semi-finals.
Bruce Mouat
Age: 27 Hometown: Stirling
On the performance
"We needed to come out and win that one to keep our hopes for the play-offs alive, so it was a big game.
"They had their backs against the wall and were going to give us a good fight regardless of what was happening elsewhere. I'm very happy to get over the line with that one and to play well too."
On winning it with the last stone
"Obviously I had a bit of nerves. It was basically just trying to throw it as hard as I could and give it to the sweepers.
"I tried to throw it half-stone and let Bobby take it back a wee bit and that's exactly what he did. I always feel confident when Hammy and Bobby are standing by me on the hack."
On tomorrow's game against world champions Sweden who have won all six of their games and top the round robin
"I'm very excited to play Sweden. They've got a lot of Olympic experience and that's what we play for, the big games and they'll be one of the biggest.
On whether Britain hold the psychological advantage having beaten Sweden in the final of the European Championships
"I think we've got a really good track record against them this season. We've played them quite a few times this season, so we just need to come out and play well, which I feel like we're doing.
"They're doing the same because they're undefeated so far. We're going to try to do what we do best, which is playing very technical tap shots, so we'll see what we get tomorrow."
On how Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr have settled into the tournament
"I'm very happy. I didn't have to tell them much of what it was like because they could see it from me playing in the mixed doubles and they were obviously very excited to get on the ice.
"I was very happy with how we performed in the first game against Italy and had to come out and fight.
"It's a different dynamic from the mixed doubles for me, too. It was just nice to get back on the ice with them all. I actually missed them!"
Grant Hardie
Age: 29 Hometown: Glasgow
On the performance
"We started off and the game plan was excellent. We got the hammer and jumped into a 2-0 lead and really controlled the scoreboard for the first five ends.
"The plan was to continue that in the sixth and we unfortunately gave up a steal and had to regroup and start again.
"We had to play some really good ends to close it out. The aim is always to have the hammer coming down the last end, which we were able to do and Bruce made that great shot for the win."
On the round robin campaign
"We knew the importance of that game coming in knowing we have three very tough games to come.
"Hopefully we can kick on now and secure our spot in the play-offs tomorrow."
Bobsleigh
Comments from Team GB's Brad Hall and Nick Gleeson as they sit 11th with a time of 1:59.74, 0.42 seconds off the medal places, after the first two runs of the two-man bobsleigh. They will return for the third and fourth runs at the Yanqing National Sliding Centre tomorrow.
Brad Hall
Age: 31 Hometown: Bath
On the performance
"It hasn't been the best day, we've had a couple of runs, a couple of mistakes on both runs and that's unfortunate.
"We're hoping to go back and correct our mistakes tomorrow and hopefully climb a few spots."
On strength of the German sleds as they occupy first, second and fourth
"They've definitely got a massive advantage. They pump millions of pounds into their research and development every year.
"Their two man sleds are definitely far superior to anyone else's."
On funding
"Our funding was completely stripped after the 2019 World Championships. So, the last three seasons we've done everything by ourselves. It's really tough.
"This season we've come away with six World Cup medals and we are here trying to compete for medals once again. And I think we've done a fantastic job nevertheless."
Nick Gleeson
Age: 25 Hometown: Surrey; Epsom
On the performance
"Everyone knows they [Germany] have got a massive bucket of money to dip into. They are right at the top funding wise.
"And obviously teams like us at the bottom are self-funded trying to find sponsors.
"I think everyone's been there at one point in their life, using their own money to find sponsors and get where they need to be.
"I think within the bobsleigh family and the sliding family, everyone knows the hardships and that it's an expensive sport.
"Everybody is willing to help out everyone else and the people that have helped us, we cannot thank them enough."
Women's curling
Comments from Team GB's women's curlers as Eve Muirhead, Jennifer Dodds, Vicky Wright and Hailey Duff lost 7-3 to Canada. Team Muirhead sit joint fifth with three wins and three losses in the round robin stage and face three must-win games against Japan, China and the Russian Olympic Committee if they are to make the top four and progress to the semi-finals. They are next in action against Japan tomorrow.
Eve Muirhead
Age: 31 Hometown: Stirling
On the permutations after the defeat
"We need to take every game from now as if it's the final. That gives us good focus and concentration.
"I've been in this position a lot of times, knowing that you need to win the rest of your matches. We just need to learn from our mistakes and what we did wrong.
"We need to go back, refocus and forget about this game. It's hard to just forget about it but we're capable of doing that and I do believe we're capable of winning our last three."
On the performance
"It was a little frustrating, I didn’t feel like we were too far away. It was a matter of inches in that game.
"The curling gods aren't always with you - let's hope in our last three games that we play well.
"We know we have to, we've got tough opposition, but it is in our own hands."
On playing Japan next
"Japan are always going to be a tough game. We'll come out with a lot of fire and hopefully get the win."
Jennifer Dodds
Age: 30 Hometown: Edinburgh
On the performance
"It was obviously disappointing. It was a matter of inches in that game, and we were the wrong side of it this time.
"We just missed the shots to put them under pressure. We weren't playing badly out there."
On Japan tomorrow
"We've got Japan tomorrow and that's going to be another tough game and another battle."
On the permutations
"I think three wins will probably get us in, so it's almost like a play-off stage from now on.
"That would be the ideal situation if we could win three but we know we've got three tough teams there, so we need to bring our best performances to have a chance."
On how she's holding up after also playing the mixed doubles
"I'm feeling great. Mixed doubles I stand around and do not much compared to ladies!
"To be fair, back at the NCA (National Curling Academy) we've done so much training and throwing. All of us are some of the strongest and fittest out there, so we have been prepared for this moment.
"I'm feeling good at the moment physically and mentally."
