Beijing 2022 Day 5 SnowsportsSnowboard
Charlotte Bankes Age: 26 Hometown: France; Hautes-Alpes On the performance "I was quite happy with my start, it was a good start on the first section. Managed to pass over on the other side which was the windy side. "Then bank 5, I made a small mistake, Tess [Critchlow] came on the inside and then I just didn’t have the speed on the last section to come through." On her disappointment "For sure I'm disappointed, frustrated with how it went. "I think that I'm not the only one - you can see Michy [2018 gold medallist Michela Moioli] was in the small final. That's how it is. "It's a tough day for me, we didn't come here for this with the team. It's boardercross, we just need to look further ahead now." On key moments "I mean bank 5 was tough. Tess managed to do a good bank 5 on the toeside. "I thought it was going to be OK but they came back from behind and everyone came through, so it was frustrating." On the pressure "For sure there's been pressure, but the pressure I put on myself is the biggest pressure. "I thought we dealt with it pretty well, the team were amazing around me and supported me through that. "Honestly, I didn't feel much more pressure than any other World Cup this season. So, I don't think it's the pressure, unfortunately I just didn’t do the race I wanted today and it's frustrating to do that at the Olympics." On switching to Team GB from France "Not at all, no [regrets]. I've never thought back about that and I'm just super happy for the support I've had. "I wouldn't be here if I hadn't made that choice and the support they've given me has been amazing. "What's hard is that the team around me is just amazing and it's disappointment for all of us. "We know it's boardercross, this is what we work towards but it's our sport and it can happen." On Covid effect "I don't know - for sure the last month hasn't been easy. "I haven't caught Covid at all as we've been very, very careful." On preparation "We did everything we could to come here and be on our A game. "The trainings we've had since the start have been great. I've been in the top three of all the trainings this week. "I think I was here in the right condition, and the riding was good. "Unfortunately, today it was slower than what we've had in training and I think it brought the pack together a bit more and I didn't manage to play my game." On whether she will compete in the mixed team event "Huw (Nightingale) is out here and I think it will be a good time to go out and have fun and see what we can do. "There's a lot of drafting in this track and Huw's been riding well, so let's go and see what happens." On next Olympics "At the moment, I'm not thinking about that. I'm frustrated and disappointed about today." On her emotions at the end "Disappointment. Honestly, just not quite understanding what's happening and the disbelief. "I knew it was going to be tight racing, I knew it. I gave it my all, I think. "It's kind of frustrating to have the worst race of my season here at the Olympics." On the banks "I think the track was running well, it was windy but we knew it was going to be windy - we had that in November and I played with it. "I knew on that straight that we should go right, but I knew that Faye [Gulini] wasn’t leading me in this phase and in November I’d done the same thing with Eva [Samková]. "It was coming back, it was tight. We knew that bank 5 was going to be a game changer. I tried to do my best turn, unfortunately it was probably not my best of the day." On mood in British camp "There's a strong squad and there's going to be some good results coming, I'm sure of that. "I've been focused on my own event, cheering everybody on and the results will come. "We are giving it our best and that's all we can do." Alpine Skiing Comments from Team GB's Charlie Guest after she finished 21st in the women's slalom, having been 15th after the first run. Alexandra Tilley, who came 22nd in the giant slalom on Monday, recorded a DNF in her first run. Charlie Guest Age: 28 Hometown: Scotland; St Martin's On the performance "I wanted to give myself the best shot of top 15, top ten. I really tried and took a lot of risks but obviously it didn’t pay off for me today. "But I'm so excited with how this whole season has gone and I'm really excited that my skiing is good enough to be in that top 15 as we saw in the first run." On the journey from PyeongChang 2018 where she finished 33rd "If I look back to where I was in PyeongChang four years ago to where I am today, it’s completely different. I have my whole family, friends and everyone at home to thank for sticking by me for the last four years to get here. "It has been a difficult time and a really huge journey. My team and everyone has really put everything into this." On the future "I'm really excited for the future and for the next few seasons as well because my skiing is just going from strength to strength at the moment. "I hope we don't see any mistakes like that (she lost time late on after going wide) in four years' time." On her approach and attitude "I don't have any regrets at all, I came straight out of that start gate and I was pushing from gate 1 today. "There were a lot of combinations up the top there, a lot of speed - the pace was coming really quickly. "I'm really happy with my attitude. I was a bit nervous on run 1 actually but I was totally fine once into it. "I really did give it everything I had and took the risks that I knew I had to."
