Beijing 2022 Flash Quotes Day -1 Freestyle Skiing
Comments from Team GB's men's and women's freestyle skiers after Moguls Qualification 1, where the top ten finishers booked a spot in the final. Will Feneley came 23rd but can make Saturday's final if he finishes tenth or better in Q2 earlier on the same day. Makayla Gerken-Schofield narrowly missed out in 12th while elder sister Leonie did not finish but both will race in Sunday's Q2 with another ten spots in the final later that evening up for grabs. Will Feneley Age: 22 Hometown: Norfolk;Shereford On the performance "I feel pretty good, it's nice to get a banker run down now and then we can push a bit more in a couple of days' time. "Hopefully, I can break into that top 20 - I was 21st when I came down - so, it's going to be a fight in the next couple of days to improve the speed a bit and work on that specifically. "Other than that, I'm very happy with the run." On the course and Olympic experience "It's brilliant. It's not just the course, it's the lights, it's the people, it's everything. "It's just absolutely amazing and to be here at my first Games, it's so exciting. "It makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable when you've got this amazing course that has been built as well. I'm just excited to ski on this course as much as possible." On becoming an Olympian "I think it is going to hit me soon. I can now say ‘Yes, I've done it, I am an Olympian.' "I try to treat it like any competition and not think too much about all the other bits that come with it. "But it's going to take a little bit of time to process this, I'm finally an Olympian and trying to at least put down a good performance while I'm at it as well. "I'm happy, my first Games are underway, so let's go for the next run." On preparing for Saturday's Q2 "Tomorrow we've got a bit more training, another hour I think. So, now we will just work on putting in a bit more pace. "I knew that this was the kind of run I was going to put down, a slightly slower one, a bit more controlled. "I know I can get the run down, get a slowed run in on my first run in the Games and hopefully show some people back home what this is all about and what British people can do. "When we come to a couple of days' time, we will try and push the speed a bit." Makayla Gerken-Schofield Age: 22 Hometown: France; Chatel On the performance after finishing 12th "I had fun, that's all I wanted to do. I put down a run top to bottom and I'm pretty happy about that." On making her Olympic debut alongside her sister "It's all really surreal, I'm struggling to really believe it. I've been treating it like a World Cup in my mind, so I'm not too overwhelmed by it all. "I'm having so much fun and to be with my sister is just incredible." On the course and conditions "It's really good, I'm having so much fun. The snow is pretty good, everything is just really fun." On racing again on Sunday "I can't wait, I really want to go again." Leonie Gerken-Schofield Age: 23 Hometown: France; Chatel On the performance after a DNF "Obviously, I'm disappointed. I did really good training, so it's disappointing to not put the run down when it counts. "But just to be here is a massive achievement in itself with everything (injuries) I've been through." On build-up to Games "Two months ago, I fell on my shoulder again and did a Grade 2 (tear)of my AC joint and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to ski and make the Olympics. "So, just to be out here is incredible." On conditions "It's tough, it's cold, not as cold as we've had it but there's quite a lot of wind at the top and it picked up more here than in training, so that affected me a bit. "It's not the easiest of conditions but we could have much worse." On preparing for the second qualification run on Sunday "We are going to discuss with my coaches whether it is worth coming tomorrow morning to train. "If not then two days off, I might do some gym work, get refocused and try and put my head back on and put a run down in Q2." On experiencing her first Olympics "Obviously with Covid, you have to be really careful. But I think China have done an amazing job with the whole set-up, it's incredible. "The pin swap is going on and I'm massively wanting to get everyone's pins! "There's a lot of things you can do, obviously you have to be careful with Covid but I think the set-up is incredible and it's a dream come true."
