Beijing 2022 Flash Quotes: Day 2 Evening
Comments from Team GB's athletes after this evening's action in Beijing.
Curling
Comments from Team GB's mixed doubles curling team of Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds after they qualified for the semi-finals and guaranteed a shot at a medal despite losing 6-2 to Norway. Earlier in the day, Mouat and Dodds beat hosts China 6-5 and they will compete in the play-offs regardless of tomorrow's result against USA in their final round robin fixture.
Bruce Mouat
Age: 27 Hometown: Stirling
On qualifying for the semi-finals and guaranteeing a shot at a medal
"We've just had a hug. We are obviously very excited. We've still got a job to do tomorrow and we want to finish the round robin with a win; that'll set us up well for the semi-finals."
On whether they had qualified in this way before after other results went their way
"I had it at the world men's event last year; we had to qualify top six for the play-offs and that was qualification for the Olympics as well."
On whether they can kickstart a medal rush for Team GB
"We hope so. Obviously we were the first to start from GB and we started with a win and to be able to get a medal would be a great achievement.
"Hopefully Team GB can get inspired by it and have a good run."
On mixed doubles as a format
"Mixed doubles is a fun sport to play. It's appealing to a lot of people back home.
"I hope a lot of people turn to curling as a whole, if they want to try mixed doubles, it's a really good way of keeping fit."
Jennifer Dodds
Age: 30 Hometown: Edinburgh
On if they have a preference over their semi-final opponent
"Not really. We just want to play our best against USA which would put us in good stead for the play-offs.
"I don't think we know the permutations of people winning and losing.
"We know it's going to be tough whoever we play in the semis, we just want to go out tomorrow and string out eight ends like we know we can."
On potentially emulating Rhona Martin and her team by being the first to win curling gold since their famous triumph at Salt Lake City 2002
"Good question. I don't know what I would have said 20 years ago if you told me.
"I probably would have doubted myself a wee bit, not had the confidence to be like, 'yeah, I want to go for gold.'
"But seeing what Rhona's achievements did for curling, I just really hope that it can get other kids into curling.
"It is physical, mental and there's a social side - I met Bruce through curling and we have been friends for almost 20 years. It is such a great sport and I hope we can get others into the game."
On how close they have been to their best
"I think we have still got a wee bit to go until we hit our best. We have not yet strung eight ends together.
"We are pretty confident we will do that. We have had a couple of good ends here and there or poor ends.
"Tomorrow is a new day and the knockouts are a new competition. I'm confident we can do that."

On the performance
"I don't really know (how to sum it up). I'm still speechless.

"My confidence was just growing and growing and I'm super proud of myself."
On her feelings coming into Q2 well placed after finishing 12th in Q1

"I wasn't expecting it to go this well - I don't really know what to say!"
On the strength of the field
"It's definitely special. I mean looking at the girls skiing down, it's absolutely incredible. They are all crushing it. The level is just getting higher and higher.

On sister Leonie's performance

"It has been a tough year, so I'm super, super proud of her."
On the Olympic experience and going again in four years time
"Absolutely, I just can't wait. I've got to improve on some stuff still - I hope to get a higher difficulty in jumps, so I'll work on that and just have fun with it all."

Rupert Staudinger
Age: 24 Hometown: Germany: Schönau am Königssee
On the performance
"It was good, I finished on a high. I think today was my best run of the whole competition, so I'm really pleased with that."
On writing 'RIP AJ' on his helmet in honour of his late teammate and three-time Olympian AJ Rosen who passed away with cancer in December
"I just wanted to do a little tribute to him (AJ), just because of all the memories I have shared with him.
"He was such a good teammate, the best teammate you could ask for.
"He was like a big brother to me, protecting me from everything, all the external influences. A really great guy."
On what makes the Germans so good at luge
"The whole funding system they have. They have four tracks, they have a great institution that really develops them. They have a ton of staff and all that plays out in good results."
On how to bridge the gap to Germans
"Well it's hard. I mean I'm a full-time student, I don't have all the capacity and resources.
"I don't earn any money from all of this, it's pure passion. I try to be as close as possible but to close the gap is probably too much to ask."
On the experience at his second Olympics
"Definitely very good. I'm still a bit out of words, to be honest. It was a good competition.
"The whole team was absolutely incredible. Whoever watched the (Instagram) stories yesterday (of him being cheered out to compete in the Team GB village), it still gives me goosebumps being part of this and I'm really happy with it."
On making progress from PyeongChang where he finished 33rd
"I was really consistent over the whole competition. Just slight mistakes in the first two runs but I think I cleaned them up today in the third run."
On potentially going to next Olympics
"You know what, it has been such a long season, I need some time to think about everything and let's see, you never know what happens."
