Beijing 2022 Flash Quotes: Day 3 Morning

Comments from Team GB athletes after this morning's events in Beijing. Curling Comments from Team GB's mixed doubles curling team of Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds who play Norway in tonight's semi-final after beating USA 8-4 in their final round robin game. Bruce Mouat Age: 27 Hometown: Stirling On how important it was to finish the round robin with a win "It's very important for our momentum going forward. We've obviously got a really tough game tonight in the semi-finals. "We are really happy with how that game went (against USA) and we are building into what should be a really good game tonight." On different energy with only two sheets on the ice "I think the energy will be really good. Hopefully there's a bit of a buzz in the arena. "We played on two sheets two nights ago. It was alright, I don't think the ice changed much. "We are definitely just looking forward to getting into the semi-final of the Olympics, that's exactly what we've dreamt of for a long time." On advantage having played mixed doubles going into men's and women's competitions "I'm quite lucky that I'm going from sweeping a lot to getting to stand still and just telling people what to do - so that should be fun for me! I don't think I'll be tired anyway. "Obviously you are playing at an Olympics so your adrenaline is going to be high no matter what. "I'm just really excited that I've had two chances to compete at the Olympic Games in one visit. "I can understand why some countries don't do it (have mixed doubles pairs play in men's/women's), but I'm really glad that ours does." On what pleased them most in win over USA "It was basically our control. We put a lot of stones in good spots to put them under pressure, our draw weight was on point today and that's exactly what you need in mixed doubles." On the achievement of getting this far "We said at the start of the week that all ten teams had a reasonable chance of qualifying. Obviously, it was going to be disappointing for six of them that didn't. "You just had to be on point the entire week. We are just really fortunate that we started off strong against Sweden and Canada and then kind of held our momentum a wee bit, but obviously didn't win all of the games but happy to make the play-offs. "This is what we've dreamt of for a long time, to be in a semi-final in our first competition at the Olympics is exactly what we've trained for and envisaged for ourselves. "We just have to keep on going and battle really hard tonight - we know we are going to have to be a bit more clinical than yesterday." Jennifer Dodds Age: 30 Hometown: Edinburgh On what to expect from rematch with Norway in semi-final "I think after today's performance - if we play like that, I think it will be a really close game. "They are a really great team and they are playing well right now - we saw that last night when they played against us. "If we tighten up the errors we made against them last night, it will be a really close game. Every game we've played against them so far has always been close." "I'm really looking forward to the game. Obviously we didn't play our best against them last night but after that performance (against USA), I think we can take a lot of confidence into tonight's game, "It's going to be a battle out there tonight - an Olympic semi-final, both teams want to win it. "If we go out and play like we did there, I think that's all we can ask for and I'm just really looking forward to it. "If you'd told me at the start of the week we would get through to the play-offs, I would have taken that in a heartbeat." On good form v USA "I think for us it was draw weight and getting that stone to the centre and controlling early on in the ends, so it made them play more technical shots. "I think the first couple of ends really showed that. Straight off the bat we were really confident on draw weight and the line to get to the centre. "And I got my first stone consistently in a really good place for probably the first time this week which really helped with Bruce's shots after that." On what needs to change from round robin game v Norway "Basically just do what we did earlier! Basically the same as today's game. "They are a great team and they are really good at the tasks and controlling the angles. So, we just have to fight with them to control the angles back. I'm really looking forward to tonight's game." On chance to secure at least a silver medal with a win tonight "It will be a battle. It's so exciting and I just can't wait to get back on the ice really. "If you told any of the teams that they would be going into an Olympic semi-final against a great team like Norway - I think anyone would take that. "So we've still got the opportunity, we just have to go out and perform like we can." On advantage having played mixed doubles going into men's and women's competitions "I think if you asked any of the people playing in the men's or ladies if for a week they could go on the ice that they are going to be competing on, they would take it. "But this is not just training for us in mixed doubles, we want to come out and perform. "But we can feedback to our team what we are seeing and they can even watch which helps them prepare for what the ice is going to be like." On what they've learnt about the ice "It's great ice now. Obviously, at the start we found it very tricky. But the last three or four days it has been great and I think when the ice is so consistent like that is when we perform our best and that showed today." Freestyle Skiing Comments from Team GB's Kirsty Muir and Katie Summerhayes after the Women's Big Air qualification runs. Muir will compete in tomorrow's final after finishing seventh, while Summerhayes narrowly misses out after finishing 13th with the top 12 progressing. Kirsty Muir Age: 17 Hometown: Aberdeen Result: 7th and into tomorrow's final On the performance "I was really happy to have landed my dub 12 in the first run. I had a crash in practice with it, so really happy to have just landed it and done it clean. "A dub 12 is like two flips and then one-and-a-half degrees of rotation, then I grab the skis just behind my boot. "That's my best trick, and I wanted to land it on my first run. "I was so happy. Really excited to be in the finals. It's a dream come true. I just can't believe it." On tomorrow's final "I can clean up the grabs and there's a few little things I could improve on so I just want to go ski my best in the final. "I'm really happy with how I did that dub 12 and if I can do that tomorrow I'll be really happy. "Everyone goes to a final with hopes of doing their best and just seeing how it goes and that's what I want to do." On the crowd It's really nice to have a crowd because we never have a crowd being up in the mountains. They were all so supportive and it was really cool to have a crowd." Katie Summerhayes Age: 26 Hometown: Sheffield Result: 13th On the performance "I'm really happy with the way it went. I don't really feel like a Big Air skier so to come 13th I'm really stoked. "To miss out on finals by one spot is tough but I never thought I would finish 13th, so I'm really happy." On competing in the slopestyle on Sunday "Prior to training for this, I haven't really skied in two weeks so it was nice to warm up on the Big Air. "I think people might have preferred Big Air second so then you can really throw yourself about. "But I'm happy and will go into slopestyle feeling really strong after my performance today. "Slopestyle is what I have come here for. This is a bonus event for me. I'm really excited. I've seen the course on TV and it looks great." On whether the slopestyle course is too big "It's not too big, never. I might be saying that differently next week. I haven't even rode down the side of it yet. "We never see a course and then take this long to ride it. You usually see it and then you're on it." On why she has not been skiing for two weeks "I've just been at home. With Covid I really wanted to make sure I made it out here so I pretty much just isolated at home for ten days and then we were here for about a week before we could actually train. It felt a bit strange skiing again." On trick selection "You can do whatever trick you want. We have three runs and you need to do two different scoring tricks. "If you want you can do the same one all three runs but that wouldn't score very well. "I just did three different tricks because I landed every one. I just thought how am I going to get the most points." On teammate Kirsty Muir's performance after she qualified in seventh for the final "It's great to see Kirsty doing well. I'm so stoked for her. To make finals is great. "I'm just excited to see all the girls throw down, it's going to be a good competition tomorrow. It's a big moment for Kirsty. "It's pretty crazy. She is nine years younger than me so I feel old. When I look down the start list there are not many of us (born) in the 1990s now. It's pretty sad! "With Kirsty, we had the Youth Olympics, we were pretty much the same age at both of our first Games. I try to give her advice but I think she's got it sorted." On snowboarder Katie Ormerod who finished 18th in the slopestyle on Saturday "Katie O is one of my best mates, we speak constantly. I was asking her how slopestyle was, she was asking me how this is. "She has already text me saying well done. We talk anyway about everything - the food, accommodation, not just the slopes. "For her to finally be an Olympian, I'm so stoked. I know full well what she has been through, I was on that journey with her. "When she broke her heel, I was rehabbing my knee too. I could have cried for her the other day, honestly."
