GEF Council provides funding boost for pollution and other priorities

Representatives of 186 donor and recipient countries allocate nearly $700 million in financing focused on chemicals and waste management, and approve expansion of two flagship programs to increase support to Indigenous Peoples and local communities.


Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF) project preparation grants to give boost to 17 countries, including nine Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States.


Adaptation support from the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) to bolster urban infrastructure in Central African Republic, improve water resource management in Pacific islands, help farmers in Yemen, and more.


Negotiations for the ninth replenishment for the GEF Trust Fund to start in early 2025. The GEF-9 period is aligned with the last push for major environmental goals. Its replenishment will involve all GEF member countries and relevant stakeholders.
