Nils van der Poel smashes 10000m world record
This is stunning from Nils van der Poel, the Swede is inside his own world record split as he enters the final laps of this 10000m final. He's 12 seconds up on the current leader Roest and more than 1.2 seconds inside his own world record as he enters the final lap. Davide Ghiotto (ITA), his skating partner, is also up on Roest. Wow, this is incredible. Van der Poel crosses the line in 12:30.74 – a massive world record by over 2.2 seconds, beating his own mark from last February. Take a bow. A big smile from the Swede as he takes the applause from the crowd. Ghiotto drops back and slots behind Roest. In the next pair, Bart Swings (BEL) and defending champ Ted-Jan Bloemen (CAN). Bloemen has just seen his Olympic record from 2018 be smashed by nine full seconds.
