Novak Djokovic became the fifth man in the Open Era to reach 1,000 match wins – putting him in the illustrious company of Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – after defeating Casper Ruud on Saturday in the semi-finals of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.

"I'm really, really blessed and privileged to have that many victories on the Tour," said Djokovic after beating Ruud. "It's been a long time since I won my first match. Hopefully I can keep going and [there are] many more victories to come."

The World No. 1 didn't have to wait long for win No. 1,001, as he returned to the Foro Italico on Sunday to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets and clinch a record-extending 38th ATP Masters 1000 crown.

"Anything that I was really looking for here in Rome, I got," said Djokovic.
