Paris 2024: Day 11 Preview
The Paralympic action comes to a close on Sunday and ParalympicsGB athletes in three sports have the opportunity to end a memorable Games on a high before the closing ceremony in the evening. All times are CET.
Athletics
Finishing at Esplanade des Invalides, David Weir and Eden Rainbow-Cooper will be competing in the men’s and women’s T54 marathons.
Weir will be hoping to emulate his London 2012 success on the streets of Paris as he takes on the 26.2-mile course which passes the Stade de France, Montmartre, the Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. He starts at 08:00 (CET)
Rainbow-Cooper races in her inaugural Paralympic marathon as the first British woman to win the wheelchair race at the Boston Marathon. She will start at 08:15.
Para canoe
After a very successful day on the water for ParalympicsGB, Britain’s paddlers return to Vaires-sur-Marne for a second day of finals.
Saturday’s gold medallists Emma Wiggs and Charlotte Henshaw will both race in the women’s KL2 races. Wiggs will first have to race the semi-final at 10:14 and will hope to join Henshaw, who has already qualified for the A final, on the start line at 11:41.
Henshaw won gold in Tokyo three years ago, with Wiggs taking silver.
Also back in action is Hope Gordon in the women’s KL3 event. She will race in the semi-final at 10:42where she races to join Tokyo 2020 champion Laura Sugar in the A final at 12:15.
Sugar paddled straight through to the A final after the heats with a time of 51.00 seconds over the 200m course.
Closing out her eighth Paralympics, Jeanette Chippington will race in the women’s KL1 semi-final at 10:00, with the A final at 11:25. She won gold in this event when para-canoeing made its debut in Rio 2016.
Ed Clifton and Jack Eyers, both making their Paralympic debuts, are aiming for finals in the men’s VL2 and men’s VL3 events respectively.
Double world champion Eyers races in his semi-final at 10:56, with the A final at 12:33.
Clifton will be racing in the Men’s VL2 semi-final at 10:28, with the A final at 11:49.
Para powerlifting
ParalympicsGB’s final competitor at Paris 2024 will be powerlifter Liam McGarry, who competes in the +107kg category.
With a personal best lift of 232kg, the 27-year-old from Dartford will make his Paralympic debut at La Chapelle Arena.
