Paris 2024: Day Seven Preview


Road cycling takes centre stage as there are a massive 63 gold medals to be won on Day Seven of the Paralympic Games in Paris.



Para Cycling


It’s road time trial day for ParalympicsGB’s para cyclists, with 17 cyclists competing across eight races.  


Dame Sarah Storey is going for her fourth straight C5 road time trial gold from 8:00 CET.


The 46-year-old, who has 12 Paralympic cycling golds to her name, is competing in her fifth Paralympic Games as a cyclist, having first gone to the Paralympics in 1992 as a swimmer.


Benjamin Watson, defending champion from Tokyo and three-time world bronze medallist, is competing in the men’s C3 race at 14:25.


He will face competition from teammates Jaco van Gass, who is looking to complete a hat-trick of golds in Paris, and world time trial silver medallist Fin Graham.


Two-time world champion and gold medallist from Rio, Stephen Bate is looking to follow up his tandem pursuit silver with gold in the men’s B event alongside pilot Chris Latham at 13:30.


Lora Fachie and pilot Corrine Hall are looking to complete the set in the women’s tandem event at 14:44 after winning silver at Tokyo and bronze at Rio, as well as two World Championship golds.


They will be joined by two-time world champion Sophie Unwin, who is looking for her second gold of the Games after winning pursuit gold with pilot Jenny Holl and track time trial gold medallist Lizzi Jordan and her pilot Danni Khan.


Another two-time time trial world champion, Fran Brown, is competing in the women’s C1-3 event at 9:02 and will be joined by individual pursuit silver medallist Daphne Schrager.


Track time trial silver medallist Blaine Hunt goes in the men’s C5 at 13:51, while pursuit silver medallist Archie Atkinson goes in the C4 at 14:11 and pursuit bronze medallist Matthew Robertson goes in the men’s C2 event from 8:27.


Para Swimming


Stephen Clegg is hunting his second gold of the Games as he goes in men’s 100m S12 freestyle heats at 9:30 ahead of the final at 17:30.


Backstroke gold medallist Clegg secured a bronze in this event at Tokyo and has won two World Championship silvers since then.


Poppy Maskill and Louise Fiddes will both be hoping to add to their medal tallies in the women’s 200m individual medley SM14 final at 17:50.


Maskill has two golds and a silver at Paris while Fiddes, who secured a bronze in this event at Tokyo, has a gold and a bronze.


They will be joined by Olivia Newman-Baronius in heats at 9:54.


Will Ellard has two golds and a silver already at Paris and will be joined in the men’s 200m SM14 individual medley heats at 9:45 by Cameron Vearncombe and Rhys Darbey, ahead of the final at 17:42.


Alice Tai and Brock Whiston are both also looking for their second gold of the Games in the women’s 400m S8 freestyle, with heats from 10:20 and the final at 18:24.


Toni Shaw goes in women’s 100m freestyle S9 heats at 11:12 ahead of the final at 19:35.


And ParalympicsGB will also be targeting gold in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay - 49 points final at 19:58.


Para Athletics


Sammi Kinghorn is looking for her third medal of the Games as she competes in the women’s T53 100m final at 20:08.


Kinghorn, who has silvers in the 800m and 1500m at Paris, has two World Championship golds to her name in the 100m including one in Paris last year.


And earlier in the day, two-time junior world champion Karim Chan will compete in the T38 long jump at 11:57, having finished fourth in the World Championships last year on his senior debut.


Wheelchair Fencing


Tokyo bronze medallist Dimitri Coutya is targeting his first medal of the Games in the men’s individual foil B.


The 26-year-old, who has four World Championship foil medals, including one gold, goes in the quarter-finals from 11:40, ahead of the gold medal bout at 19:40.


Coutya also has a team foil silver from Tokyo alongside Oliver Lam-Watson, who competes in the men’s individual foil A from 10:40, with the gold final at 20:50.


Around the Games


Sophie Wells will go in the Grade V para equestrian individual dressage event final at 12:55.


Wells has a total of eight Paralympic medals and four golds under her belt, including two individual event silvers and a gold from Rio.


Wheelchair tennis players Andy Lapthorne and Gregory Slade will face Dutch pairing Sam Schroder and Niels Vink in the men’s quad doubles gold medal match which will be third on Court Suzanne Lenglen.


Meanwhile, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett will both be pulling double duty as they compete together in the men’s doubles semi-final as well as their individual singles quarter-finals.


Two-time Paralympic bronze medallist Zoe Newson will be competing in the women’s -45kg powerlifting final from 17:00.


Newson has picked up Commonwealth gold and World Championship silver since missing out on a medal at Tokyo.


Tim Jeffery and Ryan Cockbill will be involved in R9 - mixed 50m rifle prone SH2 qualification from 12:30, with the final at 15:00.


Boccia, para table tennis and wheelchair basketball continue their knockout stages.
