Paris 2024: Day Two Preview

There are 42 gold medals up for grabs on Day Two of the Paralympics, with Paralympics GB hunting medals in cycling, swimming and beyond.

Para Cycling

There are a slew of para cycling medals on offer on Friday, with Jody Cundy among those trying to add to his individual medal haul in the men’s C4-5 1000m time trial.

Cundy, 45, has a silver in this event from Tokyo and a gold from Rio and will be joined by three-time world champion in this event Blaine Hunt and Archie Atkinson, both of whom are making their Paralympic debuts.

Qualifying is at 11:30 CET with the final from 14:57.

Jaco van Gass is looking to defend his men’s C3 individual pursuit title in tomorrow’s final, which takes place at 16:18.

He’ll be joined in qualifying, which takes place at 13:27, by teammate Fin Graham, who won silver behind Van Gass three years ago.

Two-time pursuit gold medallist Lora Fachie is in action alongside pilot Corrine Hall in the women’s B 1000m time trial.

The pair will be joined by world champion in this discipline, Lizzie Jordan, with pilot Danni Khan, and two-time medallist from Tokyo Sophie Unwin, piloted by Jenny Holl.

Qualifying is at 14:12 with the final at 16:34.

Matthew Robertson will go in the men’s C2 3000m individual pursuit, with qualifying at 12:50 and the final at 15:46.

Para Swimming

There are four potential swimming golds on offer for ParalympicsGB on Friday.

Reigning Paralympic champion Tully Kearney is hoping to defend her S5 100m freestyle title at 17:37.

Kearney will be joined by Suzanna Hext, who was fourth in Tokyo, in qualifying at 9:43.

Maisie Summers-Newton will also be defending her title, as she competes in the women’s 200m individual medley.

She will face competition from teammate Grace Harvey, herself a world silver medallist in this event.

Qualification is at 10:15 ahead of the final at 18:01.

European silver medallist Bruce Dee will be targeting glory in his maiden Paralympics when he goes in the men’s SM6 200m Individual Medley, with the final at 17:52.

Twin sisters Scarlett and Eliza Humphrey will compete in the women’s S11 400m Freestyle, with the heats at 10:27 ahead of the final at 18:43.

Eliza is a European bronze medallist in this event.

World champion from 2019 Brock Whiston also goes in the women’s SB8 100m Breaststroke heats at 19:12.

Para Taekwondo

Beth Munro goes for gold as she hopes to win Paralympics GB’s first taekwondo medal of the Games.

The gold medal bout in the women’s K44 -65kg is at 22:28 with Munro’s campaign getting underway from 11:46.

She will be looking to go one better after taking home silver from Tokyo.

Para Shooting

SH2 shooters Tim Jefferey and Ryan Cockbill, who both secured their best Paralympic finishes in Tokyo, will compete in the R4 mixed 10m air rifle stand.

Qualifying is at 13:30 with the final at 16:15.

Elsewhere, rowing, wheelchair tennis and athletics are among the sports getting underway, with David Weir competing in the first round of the Men’s 5000m T54.

Archery, badminton, boccia and table tennis and wheelchair rugby all continue.
