Suzanne Schulting wins women's 1000m gold

Schulting led from the gun, perhaps cognizant of not getting caught in any collisions behind her and having free ice up ahead. That proved to be a wise strategy, as Beijing 2022 500m champion Arianna Fontana (ITA) was ultimately penalised for a crash with Kristen Santos (USA) that took both athletes out of the race. Still, Schulting had to contend with Choi Minjeong (KOR) pushing her hard all the way to the finish line, but the Dutchwoman held strong to earn her fourth Olympic medal and second of Beijing 2022. Hanne Desmet finished third, winning Belgium's first ever short track Olympic medal, which also happens to be Belgium's first at these Games and just their seventh in Winter Olympic history! There was a nice moment too following the race as Desmet and Schulting embraced; the pair are friends as Desmet trains with the Dutch team. 🥇Suzanne Schulting (NED): 1:28.40 🥈Choi Minjeong (KOR): 1:28.46 🥉Hanne Desmet (BEL): 1:28.94
