Team World wins first Laver Cup in London

Team World captured its first Laver Cup on Sunday, in a grand finale to end one of the biggest weeks of tennis at The O2 in London.
Captain John McEnroe’s team comprising Taylor Fritz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Diego Schwartzman, Frances Tiafoe, Alex de Minaur, Jack Sock and Tommy Paul, bounced back from a 4-8 deficit to upset the reigning champions 13-8 at the fifth edition of the Laver Cup.
Sunday’s final day capped an extraordinary week, with the Big Four of tennis – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray – competing for Team Europe alongside No.2-ranked Casper Ruud and No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, as well as Matteo Berrettini and British No.1 Cameron Norrie.
Federer brought the curtain down on his illustrious career in an emotional Friday night session, partnering with long-time rival and friend, Rafael Nadal. The 20-time Grand Slam champion was serenaded into retirement by pop singer Ellie Goulding, who sang “Still Falling For You,” and “Fire and Ice” – surrounded by family, friends, and the giants of tennis in a packed arena, including legend Rod Laver, for whom the Laver Cup is named, and Team Europe Captain Bjorn Borg and Team World’s McEnroe.
