The first ATP Head2Head clash between two of the ATP Tour's brightest young stars did not disappoint
Lorenzo Musetti, 20, prevailed against 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in a rollercoaster final at the Hamburg European Open to clinch his first title. He also denied the top-seeded Spaniard a clean sweep of this year's clay ATP 500 tournaments.
What It Means... With his efforts in Hamburg, Musetti breaks into the Top 50 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings, cutting in half his ranking to No. 31.
As for Alcaraz, his rapid ascent continues to show no signs of slowing down. Despite falling short in the final, he rises to a career-high No. 5, becoming the second-youngest player in the 21st century to crack the Top 5.
"It means a lot. The hard work that I put in every day for reaching my dreams, [No.] 1, and little by little I'm reaching my dream," Alcaraz said. "Top 5 for me is pretty amazing and I will keep going to be [No.] 1."
