US Open Draw & Five-Way Battle For No. 1
There's a lot on the line at this year's US Open. And as the battle for No. 1 heats up, top seed and defending champion Daniil Medvedev faces a tricky draw.
Medvedev could face a blockbuster fourth-round rematch with red-hot Nick Kyrgios, who won their clash in Montreal earlier this month. Kyrgios will focus on his first match, though, as he faces an opening test against a player whom he often calls a “brother”, countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Also in the top half are two other No. 1 contenders – Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud – as well as Dominic Thiem, who returns to New York for the first time since winning the 2020 US Open. The Austrian begins his run against Montreal champion Pablo Carreno Busta. Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz lead the bottom half of the 2022 draw. Notable players in Nadal's quarter of the draw include Cameron Norrie, Andrey Rublev and Diego Schwartzman, while Alcaraz's quarter includes Hubert Hurkacz, Jannik Sinner and recent Cincinnati champion Borna Coric.
